Povidone iodine preparation for topical use
Povidone iodine (Povidone iodine) is a loose complex formed by combining elemental iodine and polymer carrier, Povidone acts as carrier and solubilization aid. It is yellowish-brown to brownish-red amorphous powder at room temperature. Slightly smelly, soluble in water or ethanol, aqueous solution is acidic, insoluble in ether, chloroform, acetone, ethane and carbon tetrachloride. Povidone iodine solution has no shortcomings of iodine tincture, light coloring, easy elution, little stimulation to mucosa, no need for alcohol deiodination, no corrosion, and low toxicity.
Povidone iodine is a topical medication that reduces the risk of developing skin or eye infections. Use this product safely according to the instructions on the label.
What kind of drug is this?
Povidone iodine (poe-vee-donahy-uh-din) is used on the skin to reduce the risk of infection. The drug is also used as a surgical hand scrub and to wash the skin and surface of the eyes before surgery to help prevent infection.

What if I miss my dose?

What might interact with this drug?
Do not use this medicine with any of the following:
• Benzoin tincture
• Hydrogen peroxide 3%

Do not use for more than 1 week or on large areas of the body unless told to do so by your doctor or healthcare professional.
Do not take this medicine by mouth. Avoid contact with eyes except for eye preparation solution. If it comes into contact with your eyes, rinse with plenty of cool running water.

You should report side effects to your doctor or healthcare professional as soon as possible:
• Allergic reactions such as rashes, itching or hives, swelling of the face, lips or tongue

• Eye pain
• Skin redness and irritation

Where should I put my medication?
Keep out of reach of children.
Store at room temperature of 15 to 25 degrees Celsius (59 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit). Keep this medicine in its original container. Don’t freeze. Throw away any unused medication after the expiration date.
