What is POvidone

PVP=Polyvinylpyrrolidone, the chemical name of polyvinylpyrrolidone, can also be written PNVP, povidone, polyvidone, crospovidone, is a water-soluble polymer, Its monomer is N-Vinylpyrrolidone(N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone), which is a water-soluble polymer compound with excellent performance and wide use. It is a high-tech fine chemical product with high added value, and is an important chemical intermediate and pharmaceutical intermediate. It has a wide range of applications in medicine, and is one of the three new pharmaceutical excipients advocated internationally. The most widely used adhesives are tablets and granules. PVP can also be used as a flow aid for capsules, a detoxifying agent and lubricant for eye drugs, a co-solvent for injections, a dispersant for liquid preparations, and a stabilizer for enzymes and heat-sensitive drugs. Povidone can also synthesize PVP-I disinfectant with iodine. In contact lenses, PVP is used as a component of contact lenses to increase their hydrophilicity. PVP can also be used as a cryogenic preservative in medicine. Povidone K30, is being included in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia 2000 edition, PVP is included in the United States Pharmacopoeia 26 edition.

What is POvidone
Povidone is a synthetic polymer composed mainly of linear 1-vinyl-2 pyrrolidone groups, and different degrees of polymerization result in different molecular weights of the polymers. It is not recommended that you blindly use drugs containing POvidone, so as not to cause damage to your health.
Povidone is widely used as pharmaceutical excipients, especially tablets and solutions, which are not absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract and mucosa after oral administration, non-toxic, and non-irritating to the skin, usually without allergic reactions. Povidone is a white to milky white powder, odorless or almost odorless, and hygroscopic. The chemical properties of POvidone are relatively stable, and can be miscible with most inorganic salts, many polymers, surfactants in solution, and can also form insoluble complexes with salicylic acid, tannic acid, polyacrylic acid, methyl vinyl ether-maleic acid copolymers, which can extend the action time of drugs. In addition, povidone can increase plasma colloid osmotic pressure and increase blood volume, which can be used for reduced blood volume caused by traumatic bleeding and other reasons.
Povidone can be used as a binder for tablets and granules, as a filler, disintegrator, coating material for tablets, as a suspension aid, stabilizer, or adhesive in oral and topical preparations, and as a solutizer in oral or parenteral administration. Povidone is generally suitable for the binder of aspirin, vitamin C, sodium bicarbonate and other tablets, and can delay the hydrolysis of aspirin tablets.
1. Cosmetics industry :PVPK series can be used as dispersant, film forming agent, thickener, lubricant and adhesive in cosmetics industry, for hair care products such as spray, mousse, hair gel, shampoo, hair liquid, hair dye; Skin care products such as lip balm, sunscreen, moisturizer, and other cosmetic products such as modifiers, deodorants, toothpaste, etc.
2. Pharmaceutical industry :PVPK30(pharmaceutical grade) is one of the new pharmaceutical synthetic excipients, which can be used as a binder for tablets, particles, co-solvent and stabilizer for injections, flow aid for capsules, dispersant for liquid preparations and colorants, stabilizer for enzymes and heat-sensitive drugs, co-precipitant for insoluble drugs, detoxicant for eye drugs, lubricant and coating film agent, etc. There are hundreds of drugs using PVP as excipients. Pharmaceutical grade PVPK30 has been approved by the State pharmaceutical Administration of the People’s Republic of China.
3, other industrial uses: paint and coating, plastic, resin, glass fiber, ink, ink, adhesive, cleaning agent, photographic film, press, TV picture tube, production of potions, adhesive cloth, disinfectant, paper, textile printing and dyeing industry used as dispersant, film forming agent and emulsifier additives.
