Super disintegrator – Crosslinked POvidone PVPP
Cross-linked povidone (Copovidone) is a water-insoluble synthetic cross-linked N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone homopolymer. It is a water-insoluble tablet disintegrator or dissolution agent, and the concentration of 2% to 5% is used in direct tablet pressing and dry or wet pellet pressing process. Crosslinked POvidone rapidly exhibits high capillary activity and excellent hydration ability, with almost no tendency to gel. The results showed that the size of crosslinked POvidone particles strongly affected the disintegrability of Rezhitong tablets. The crosslinked POvidone with larger particles can disintegrate faster than the one with smaller particles. Crosslinked POvidone is also used as a solubility accelerator. Cross-linked POvidone can increase the solubility of insoluble drugs by co-evaporation technique. First, the drug is adsorbed on the crosslinked POvidone with an appropriate solvent, and then the solvent is evaporated. This technique allows for a faster dissolution rate.
