polyvinylpyrrolidone k90

PVP POvidone introduction

Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) is a water-soluble polymer formed by linear polymerization of N-vinylpyrrolidone (NVP). Its molecular structure formula is shown in Figure 1.1. In 1938, German chemist Reppe first used acetylene as raw material to synthesize PVP. So far, PVP has developed into non-ionic, cationic, anionic 3 categories, industrial grade, pharmaceutical grade, food grade 3 specifications, relative molecular mass from thousands to more than one million homopolymer, copolymer and crosslinked polymer series products, and with its excellent unique properties are widely used. PVP not only has the general properties of water- soluble polymers, such as colloidal protection, film formation, bonding, hygroscopicity, thickening, condensation and complexation ability with some compounds, but also has been paid attention to by people for its excellent solubility and physiological compatibility. In the synthetic polymer products, such as PVP is soluble in water, but also soluble in most organic solvents, extremely low toxicity, physiological inertia compatibility good varieties are very rare.

Due to its excellent performance, PVP has received more and more attention from people, and has been applied more and more in the fields closely related to people’s health and scientific and technological development, such as medicine, food, cosmetics, water treatment, and nanotechnology.

The molecular weight of PVPK90 is about 600,000, which belongs to the high K value in the homopolymer series products.

Performance and application

Solubility and solution properties

The aqueous solution of PVPK90 is non-thixotropic in most cases and has a very short relaxation time. When the concentration is large, it will have a certain structural viscosity; When the shear force is increased, the viscosity will decrease. Controlling the concentration of PVPK90 will bring many different application performance to PVPK90.

The width and narrowness of molecular weight distribution and its influence

As with all free radical polymerization products, PVP has a typical Schulg-Ftory molecular weight distribution. As the high molecular weight PVP K90 in the PVP series, its molecular weight distribution curve is usually wider, because of the high molecular weight, many branch chains are usually generated during polymerization. The higher the degree of grafting, the larger the molecular weight and the wider the distribution. Control the molecular weight distribution of PVPK90 well, in order to play its due performance in application, otherwise its performance will be limited, can not achieve the expected use effect.
