2-methyl-1, 3-propylene glycol (English name: 2-methylpropane-1,3-diol, abbreviated as MPO, CAS number: 2163-42-0)

The chemical name of methylpropylene glycol is 2-methyl-1, 3-propylene glycol, abbreviated MP0, and 1, 3-butanediol is an isomer. Methylpropylene glycol is a colorless, transparent liquid with low melting point and low viscosity.

MPO is mildly toxic, irritating to eyes and skin contact, with acute skin LD50 > 2000 mg/kg in rabbits [5]. The 2018 Announcement of New Varieties of Food Related Products specifies a specific migration limit of 5mg/kg when MPO is used in coatings and coatings for food contact.
