China’s Coal-to-Olefins Byproduct C5 Deep Processing Project Successfully Commences Production
Recently, one of company in Shaanxi successfully commenced trial production of its 50,000-ton/year C5 deep processing project, achieving the production of qualified products. This marks China’s first industrial-scale project for the deep processing of C5 byproducts from coal-to-olefins, representing a significant breakthrough in the comprehensive utilization of C5 resources in the country. The project officially began trial production on February, 2025, and has since fully operationalized all processes, reaching 100% of its designed production capacity. With a total investment of 280 million yuan the project utilizes C5 fractions from coal-to-olefins as raw materials and employs the company’s independently developed advanced technology for deep processing. It is capable of producing a variety of high-value-added chemical products annually, including 19,000 tons of methyl tert-amyl ether (intermediate product), 10,000 tons of isoamylene, 2,000 tons of 1-pentene, 2,000 tons of tert-amyl alcohol, and 2,000 tons of methyl tert-butyl ketone. The successful commencement of this…

Saudi Arabia Launches Two World-Class Petrochemical Projects
The Saudi Ministry of Energy recently approved the feedstock supply plans for two mega petrochemical projects located in the Jubail Industrial Zone. With a combined annual production capacity of 6.6 million tons, these projects represent a significant investment and are set to substantially enhance Saudi Arabia’s strategic position in the global petrochemical market. The first project, led by Saudi National Industrialization Company (Tasnee), is designed with an annual capacity of 3.3 million tons. Utilizing advanced steam cracking technology, the project will primarily produce ethylene, high-density polyethylene (HDPE), linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), and methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE). Notably, the project will achieve several technological breakthroughs, including the first large-scale production in the Middle East of phthalate-free plasticizers, novel polyether polyols, and ethylene oxide-propylene oxide copolymers, among other high-end specialty chemicals, filling regional industrial gaps. The second project is a joint investment by Sahara International Petrochemical Company and global chemical giant LyondellBasell…

LG Chem has indefinitely postponed mass production plans at its PBAT plant in South Korea
Recently, according to South Korea’s “Daily Business News” quoted industry sources, LG Chemical has suspended the operation of its PBAT (polyadipate/butylene terephthalate) plant in Oyama, and began to redeploy staff. The company originally planned to start pilot production in 2024 and officially launch mass production in 2025. However, due to profitability concerns, LG Chem decided to postpone the mass production plan of the plant indefinitely. “Although the mass production of PBAT has been delayed, the related business has not been terminated,” an LG Chem official said. “This is one of the strategic adjustments the company is making to respond to market changes and optimize the efficiency of its product portfolio,” he further explained. LG Chem will invest 210 billion won in 2021 to start construction of a PBAT plant with an annual capacity of 50,000 tons. The postponement of the mass production plan reflects the company’s careful consideration of the…
