Polyvinylpyrrolidone POvidone PVP CAS number :9003-39-8

Polyvinylpyrrolidone, or PVP, is a non-ionic polymer that is the most distinctive, best-studied and widely studied fine chemical among N-vinylamide polymers. Has developed into non-ionic, cationic, anionic 3 categories, relative molecular weight from thousands to more than one million homopolymer, copolymer and crosslinked polymer series products, and with its excellent unique properties have been widely used. Polyvinylpyrrolidone, as a polymer surfactant, can be used as dispersant, emulsifier, thickener, leveling agent, particle size regulator, anti-reprecipitating agent, coagulant, co-solvent and detergent in different dispersion systems.

Application: Polyvinylpyrrolidone can combine with phenols and alkaloids to form a complex to remove phenols and alkaloids from plant samples, which can prevent these substances from modifying proteins and interfering with spectrophotometry to measure protein content; Increased enzyme stability. PVP is widely used as an excipient in pharmaceutical preparations.

Example of use

Areas of use Advantages of PVP:
battery     Dispersants  Dispersion of carbon materials and metal oxides
It can be dissolved in water or NMP to make it slurry
Membranes for dialysis/water treatment Solubilizer
Hydrophilic agent
Pore-forming agents
It is dissolved in amide solvents and evenly dispersed into substrates such as polysulfone
High hydrophilicity, the water washing of the membrane creates pores, and the surface of the hydrophobic membrane becomes hydrophilic
Adhesive Pressure-sensitive adhesives

 Rewetting adhesives
Food packaging (non-contact)

Adhesion to a wide range of substrates such as plastics, glass, and metal
 High hydrophilicity, high water absorption
 High security
ceramics Adhesive
 Dispersants
The dispersion of metal oxides is excellent

It is easily water-soluble and inorganic dispersible

Function details

Excellent menstrual stability

In the presence of air, the K value decreased less, showing a higher time stability.

PVP K-90 opens (under atmosphere)

Excellent hygroscopicity

Compared with other water-soluble non-ionic polymers, it shows higher hygroscopicity.

Excellent hygroscopicity

Excellent viscosity stability

For changes in salt concentration or pH, an aqueous solution with stable viscosity can be obtained.

Q&A

What is the metal content?

The following data are available for reference.

K85: ≦10ppm (color rendering in lead, acid sodium sulfide solution)

K30: ≦5ppm (ICP-MS)

What is the particle size?

The average particle size is shown below.

K90, K85: about 300μm

K30: About 100μm

How to store?

It will absorb moisture from the air, so it is recommended to use a container that is isolated from the air. (e.g. Aluminum foil inner bag, heat sealing)
