Performance and application
Solubility and solution properties
Like all homopolymer series products, because the molecular structure of PVPK30 contains hydrophilic groups and oil groups, it can interact with many solvents, so
that it can be dissolved in water, and can be dissolved in a variety of alcohols, carboxylic acids, amines and halogenated hydrocarbons and other organic solvents.
The solubility is limited only by its own viscosity.
PVPK30 can be dissolved in a variety of organic solvents, so that it has a wide range of applications in the production of water treatment film, is an excellent
membrane pore-causing agent. Taking PVDF hollow fiber membrane as an example, PVPK30, PVDF and other fillers are dissolved in organic solvents such as DMF
or DMAc to make the casting film liquid. After processing by subsequent processes such as spinning, it is gelatinized in water phase or alcohol phase to make a
membrane filament with uniform pore size.
Surface activity
The molecule of PVPK30 has a butyractam structure and contains a more polar lactam group with a dipole moment of 40, which has the ability of hydrophilic and
polophilic groups. In addition, there are non-polar methylene (-CH2-) and submethylene (-CH =) groups in its molecular ring and long chain, making it lipophilic.
The environment of the two ends of the amide group in the dipole moment of the molecule is also different, from the molecular model, the end of the oxygen atom
is bare, and the end containing the N atom is just surrounded by methyl and methylene. This molecular structure of PVPK30 makes it surface active and can be
used as a polymer surfactant.
Film forming and hygroscopicity
PVPK30 can be poured or coated from a solution of water, methanol, ethanol, chloroform or dichloroethane. The formed film is colorless, transparent, hard and
bright, and the solvent has no effect on the generated film. PVPK30 has strong hygroscopic ability, which is weaker than carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), but
stronger than PVA. Once the PVPK30 is hygroscopic, it will show a certain bonding property. The hygroscopic equilibrium water content of PVPK30 is about 1/3 of
the relative humidity.
complexability
PVPK30 is a polymer with a high “dissolving” ability, which is due to the high polarity of its molecular structure and the ability to accept the hydrogen chain of
amide groups, while also having non-polar groups. Both groups have the ability to “dissolve” the corresponding groups on small molecular components. This ability
enables PVP to form solid complexes with many substances, especially compounds containing hydroxyl, carboxyl, amino, and other active hydrogen atoms.
