In the use of effervescent agents,PVP is an ideal adhesive, because effervescent agents require strict control of water content, using PVP ethanol solution as a binder can solve this problem. The effervescent tablets made by this method have good obviousness, rapid dissolution and strong foaming. With about 5%-10% PVP solution as binder can also be used for fluidized bed spray drying granulation.

Practice has proved that PVP can be used in the film coating process of both water and organic solvent systems, and its coating advantages: it can improve the adhesion ability of the film to the surface, improve the dispersion of color lake or dye, can be used as a film plasticizer, and can change the disintegration time of the film based on hydrophobic materials. The commonly used concentration of coating is 0.5%– 5%. At present, PVP/VA series products are specially used as film forming materials, which are copolymers of VP(vinylpyrinolanone) and VA(vinyl acetate).

PVP can be used as adhesive, blocking agent, osmotic enhancer and so on. Ye Linlin et al. [8] developed single-chamber single-layer nifedipine oral osmotic pump tablets, optimized the formula and preparation parameters of nifedipine oral osmotic pump tablets, and determined the core formula, in which the content of PVP as an osmotic aid was 7.08%. The results showed that the release of nifedipine osmotic pump tablets prepared by the authors was in good agreement with the characteristics of zero-order release of osmotic pump tablets.
