polyvinylpyrrolidone crosslinking

What is pvpp?
PVPP is crosslinked polyvinylpyrrolidone, also known as crosslinked POvidone. It is white or nearly white, with hygroscopic and easy to flow powder, odorless or slightly odorless, insoluble in water, alkali, acid and common organic solvents, with strong expansion performance and complex ability with many kinds of substances.

Due to the high molecular weight and cross-linked structure of PVPP, it is insoluble in water but can quickly introduce water when it meets water, prompting its network structure to expand and produce disintegration, so PVPP is a widely used tablet disintegrator in medicine.

And because the molecule has amide bond and adsorbed the hydroxyl group on the polyphenol molecule to form hydrogen bond, it can adsorb polyphenols and improve the abiotic stability of the wine body. Therefore, it can be used as a stabilizer for beer, fruit wine and beverage wine, extending its shelf life up to 300 days, and improving its transparency, color and taste.

It should be used as a stabilizer for beer, liquor, grape juice and fruit juice and other beverages to extend its storage period, and is mainly used as the disintegration of tablets in the pharmaceutical industry
It can also be used as a disintegrating agent and filler for pills, granules and hard capsules.

Extended data

PVPP can be used as a clarifying agent and stabilizer for beer, fruit wine and fruit juice in brewing and beverage industry.
There are many kinds of proteins and polyphenols in wine brewed from plant raw materials. Polyphenols are easy to form complex precipitates with proteins after forming polymers under certain conditions, resulting in abiotic turbidity, which seriously affects the appearance and flavor of the wine body, and is one of the main hazards to the quality of wine.

From the perspective of the mechanism of beverage turbidity formation, in order to prevent the formation and development of turbidity, it is necessary to remove the precursor of non-biological turbidity – polyphenol or polymer protein, so that it is separated from the beverage.
In the pharmaceutical industry, PVPP is mainly used as a disintegrant for tablets, and can also be used as a disintegrant and filler for pills, granules and hard capsules.
PVPP is a non-toxic, non-irritant, safe and stable polymer with strong selective adsorption ability. It can form hydrogen bond complexes through carbonyl and anthocyanins, flavonoids polyhydroxyl derivatives and other polyphenols to precipitate, thereby removing the abiotic turbidity of wine, achieving clarification and stability, while maintaining the original taste and flavor of the drink.

The market prospect of crosslinked polyethylene pyrrolidone (PVPP)
1) Upstream industry of PVPP
PVPP can be synthesized by NVP or PVP, NVP is a fine chemical product with high added value, soluble in water and other organic solvents, active chemical properties, and a wide range of uses. As the traditional production method, acetylene process has large investment, large energy consumption and the risk of explosion, while the direct preparation of NVP by R-butyrolactone amination has the advantages of high purity, less by-products and good safety, which is the development trend in the future.

PVP is a series of excellent polymer fine chemical products obtained from NVP monomer by homopolymerization, copolymerization and crosslinking polymerization. Usually PVP can be divided into pharmaceutical grade (food grade), cosmetic grade and industrial grade three. It has excellent solubility, physiological compatibility, complexation, film forming, bonding ability, water absorption and moisture retention, and has a wide range of important roles in biomedicine, daily chemical industry, pigment coating, textile and paper making, oil extraction, photosensitive materials and electronic industry. Acetylene method is one of the mature methods for industrial production of PVP. At present, the R-butyrolactone method, which has been studied more frequently, has mild operating conditions, but high price and high cost.

2) Downstream industry of PVPP
Food industry: PVPP is the only way to solve polyphenol-protein precipitation from the perspective of polyphenols, and the effect is very good, if used in combination with other stabilizers such as silica gel. The ability of PVPP to remove certain polyphenol compounds from plants is superior to PVP. The polyphenol compounds adsorbed by PVPP can be extracted, separated and determined, so that the amount of PVPP can be controlled in production. The use of one-time PVPP in beer production is costly and reduces the antioxidant capacity of the alcohol. The use of regenerative PVPP needs to be equipped with adding, filtering, recycling and other equipment, recycling PVPP can effectively reduce the production cost.

At present, the domestic PVPP has been allowed to be used as a stabilizer in the food industry. At present, the domestic PVPP production process is still relatively backward, the management level of enterprises needs to be improved, the inspection method needs to be improved, and the quality can not be fully guaranteed. With the development of social economy and the increase of PVPP demand, China’s PVPP market will be further standardized, and the competitiveness of products will be further improved.

Due to the clarification of PVPP that can be used in beer, red wine, liquor, juice, etc., the development of these industries has a direct impact on the PVPP market. China’s beer market is gradually penetrating from first – and second-tier cities to third-tier cities and towns. Compared to other countries, China’s per capita beer consumption is still low, and the market has huge potential for growth. The premium beer market is expected to grow by more than 20% in the next five years; Red wine is the second most popular beverage in the international wine market after beer, but the per capita consumption of red wine in China is far lower than that in the world.

China’s liquor industry has changed from a period of rapid expansion to a relatively stable period this year, but its output, output value, tax revenue, sales revenue, the number of enterprises, infrastructure investment and so on are still growing continuously. China’s fruit juice beverage market has been developing rapidly in recent years, and healthy and delicious fruit juice has become the main reason to attract consumers. China’s per capita consumption of fruit juice drinks is still low, there is still a huge space for development, with the development of brewing industry, PVPP will have a broad application space.

Pharmaceutical industry: PVPP is an excellent disintegrator. The research and application of medicinal excipients in China started late, and the products in the medicinal excipients market lack innovation, and the driving force to promote their rapid development is insufficient. The rapid development of pharmaceutical excipients is a considerable requirement for the overall upgrading of the pharmaceutical industry.

The significant improvement of drug quality and safety levels and the complexity of modern dosage forms inevitably require the development trend of pharmaceutical excipients to be more refined, and some products and technologies (such as composite excipients) need to be developed to solve the problems that may occur in the production process of the preparation. In addition, specialized, improved and high-functional pharmaceutical excipients will also develop quickly. As a new pharmaceutical excipient, PVPP plays an important role in the field of pharmaceuticals, and plays a powerful role in promoting the development of new drugs, new dosage forms and new varieties. It is expected to be used in excellent slow and controlled release materials, non-toxic and efficient transdermal accelerators, targeted preparation materials, non-toxic and efficient drug carriers and composite materials suitable for a variety of drug preparations.
